I will be telling you about Benjamin Thompson, gas lighting, William Murdoch, and the screw cutting lathe.
Benjamin Thomson was an American military officer. He was also a scientist and inventor. Benjamin was born on March 26, 1753 and died on August 21, 1814. He was 61 when he died.
A super interesting invention I learned about was gas lighting. Gas lighting was invented to light the side walk. A gas lamp used combustion to make sparks that then makes a fire. That is how gas lighting functioned. Now they are electric powered.
I learned about William Murdoch who served as a top military general. He went on a ship with 1,500 others, but the ship sank and he died. He lived from February 28, 1873 and died April 15, 1912.
I also learned about the screw cutting lathe that is capable of cutting very accurate screw threads.
That is the inventions I learned about this week in history.
