I will be telling you about The Coke-Fired Blast Furnace, Newcomen atmospheric engine, Thomas Newcomen, and Octans.
The Coke-Fired Blast Furnace is powered by coke which is grey, hard, and coal-based fuel with a high carbon content. It is made by heating coal or petroleum in the absence of air. Coke is an important industrial product, used mainly in the of iron ore, but also as a fuel in stoves and forges. That is what the furnace uses to smelt things like iron!
The atmospheric engine was invented by Thomas Newcomen 1712, and is sometimes referred to as the or Newcomen fire engine. The engine was operated by condensing steam being drawn into the cylinder, thereby creating a partial vacuum which allowed atmospheric pressure to push the piston into the cylinder. It is significant as the first practical device to harness steam to produce mechanical work.
Thomas Newcomen was born on August 5,1664. He was an English inventor, and creator of the atmospheric engine in 1712 that I just mentioned. He was a Baptist preacher.
Octans is a constellation located in the deep Southern Sky. Its name is Latin for the eighth part of a circle, but it is named after the octant. The Octant is a navigational instrument.
My favorite invention is the Coke Fired Blast Furnace because I think it is very cool.
That is what I learned about this week!
My fav chapter books are Zoey and Sassafras and Diary of a Pug
