Once the Roman Empire collapsed, it was easy for people to make the same type of glass that was originally made in the Roman Empire. People could purchase the tools and materials to make glass.
Obsidian was used to smooth the glass and acquired in Egypt. Unfortunately, Egypt was so dry there wasn’t enough water to grow obsidian. As a result people started making glass with weeds, grass, coal, and tree logs. This made glass a bit darker and green but they didn’t care.
This is how glass was made after the Roman collapse.
